Folder tree generator

Turn an indented list of files and folders into a tree for your README, documentation or code comments.

One entry per line. Indent children with 2 or 4 spaces, or tabs. Start the first entry without indentation.

Project structure

Open the README builder

Copy Markdown for an existing README. The builder also has an optional Project structure field; links do not transfer your file list.

How to build a folder tree

Paste names, not a command. A child entry must be exactly one indentation level deeper than its parent. Empty lines are ignored. Parents are shown as folders; a trailing / marks an empty folder.

Limits and readable output

Up to 20,000 input characters, 500 entries, 32 indentation levels and 160 characters per name. Invalid indentation stops output rather than guessing. Use a monospace code block; emoji and wide characters can vary by font.

Your file list stays in this page

The generator does not read your disk, execute commands, upload names or save the list in browser storage. Optional analytics count tool actions without the file names or generated tree.
