Questions
Do text faces work in usernames?
On most platforms yes in the display name, often no in the handle. Handles are usually restricted to letters, digits and underscores.
Why do some faces render with the characters overlapping?
Faces that use combining marks — the smug face, for one — stack a mark on top of the previous character by design. If your font handles combining marks badly they can drift. Pick a face without them if that happens.
What is the difference between a text face and a kaomoji?
Kaomoji is the Japanese term and generally means the ones with arms, bodies and motion. A text face is usually just the face. In practice people use both words for the same thing.
