Small animals are the sweet spot for text art: big enough to read, short enough to paste into a message without taking over the channel.

Everything here stays under seven rows. Anything taller gets scrolled past in chat and gets cropped on a phone, which defeats the point. Use a code block for the multi-line ones so the columns hold.

Where these work

This page has 20 pieces: 12 single-line and 8 multi-line. The widest is 12 characters across.

The 8 multi-line ones — bunny, bunny simple, puppy, owl and others — only hold their shape in a monospace font. In Discord that means wrapping them in a code block with three backticks; in a README it means a fenced code block; in a terminal they just work. Paste one into a normal chat message and the rows drift apart.

Questions

Which of these work in a normal chat message?

The one-line animals — fish, snake, bear, frog — hold their shape anywhere. Anything with a line break needs monospace to look right.

Why is the bunny’s carrot showing as a square?

That one is an emoji, not ASCII. If your platform has no emoji font it falls back to a box. Delete the last character and the bunny still works.

Is there a bigger version of these?

Bigger animal art exists but it stops being pasteable — past about ten rows it wraps on phones and gets cropped in chat. Convert a photo instead if you want detail.
