Questions
Can I use stars for a rating in plain text?
Yes, and ★★★★☆ is the standard way to do it — filled stars for the score, outline stars for the remainder. It reads correctly in a screen reader too, though slowly.
Why is my star coloured?
A few of these have emoji variants. If your platform picks the emoji presentation you get a coloured glyph. Adding the variation selector U+FE0E forces the text version, but support is inconsistent — easier to pick a star without an emoji twin, like ✦.
Do stars work in a Discord username?
In the display name yes, in the handle no — Discord restricts handles to lowercase letters, digits, underscore and full stop.
